Job Description

At Telent Technology Services Ltd, we are dedicated to connecting people and keeping critical networks operational. We invite you to join our Highways division as a Highways Cost Estimator, where you will engage with a variety of tenders in the highways sector, including traffic signals projects and prestigious motorway schemes across the UK.
Key Responsibilities:
Utilize your estimating expertise to develop and finalize cost models that meet customer specifications, including NEC cost component principles. Your work will encompass roadside technology and communications systems maintenance, upgrade works, and associated civil works such as trenching, ducting, chambers, and cabinet installations necessary for technology deployment.

  • Generate detailed and approved quotations.
  • Ensure all customer requirements are met or exceeded with a proactive and innovative approach.
  • Manage commercial risks and liabilities effectively.
  • Identify opportunities for additional revenue through contract variations or new orders.
  • Respond promptly to client inquiries and take ownership of client issues.
  • Monitor the progress of opportunities.

Key Requirements:
  • Experience in estimating for traffic signals scheme works.
  • Previous experience in a similar estimating role within a technology or communication-focused highways business.
  • Ability to cost from first principles for technology maintenance, installation, and commissioning services for highways projects, including interpreting technical and communication drawings, cabling schematic diagrams, and validating Bills of Quantities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly strong Excel skills.
  • Good understanding of highways sector specifications and pricing schedules, including 1500 series works (Motorway Communications).
  • Broad knowledge of CDM and other health and safety legislation, along with a solid understanding of health and safety requirements.
  • Familiarity with NEC contract models and costing methodologies.
