Position Overview
We are thrilled to announce a leadership opportunity within the Plasma Control team, part of the Diagnostics, Data, and Control Department.
The Plasma Control team is tasked with the development, maintenance, and operation of the Plasma Control System and associated tools for Tokamak Energy's flagship project. This includes creating plasma control solutions for both current and future fusion devices. The team's responsibilities also extend to control-oriented modeling, scenario modeling, and experimental scenario development.
As the leader of this team, you will report directly to the Head of the Diagnostics, Data, and Control Department. Your role will involve providing technical direction for plasma control and operations, while also ensuring the safety, well-being, growth, and performance of your team members. By understanding and nurturing the skills and capabilities of your team, you will play a pivotal role in resource allocation to ensure safe, effective, and timely project execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Offer technical leadership and expertise in plasma control and operations to support various Tokamak Energy initiatives.
- Oversee the delivery of high-quality software across the Plasma Control team's ongoing and future projects.
- Define and implement the technical strategy at the team level, collaborating with the Department Head to ensure the long-term development of Plasma Control Systems and related modeling tools.
- Ensure the safety, well-being, growth, and performance of all team members.
- Manage resource allocation effectively in line with established priorities to meet project demands.
- Develop team skills, capabilities, and tools to align with the business strategy.
- Act as a point of escalation and support for team-related issues, collaborating closely with the Department Head and other stakeholders as necessary.
- Lead environmental, health, and safety initiatives for the team and oversee owned laboratory areas.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a degree or equivalent in a relevant technical field.
- Understanding of tokamaks and plasma control systems.
- Experience in developing and operating real-time systems.
- Strong technical background with a keen awareness of current and emerging opportunities in plasma control and related fields.
- Proven experience in applying best practices in software development.
- Exceptional problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Capability to effectively manage a small, multidisciplinary team.
- Solid understanding of resources, tools, and techniques for effective people management, including performance management and development through constructive conversations.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire a team while promoting Tokamak Energy's core values of creativity, agility, safety, collaboration, and respect.
- Results-oriented with the ability to prioritize, organize, allocate, and integrate team resources to deliver complex projects.
- Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink.

Safety-Critical Duties
This role involves specific hazards or safety-critical activities that will require successful pre-employment health screening.
- Work in varying temperature environments.
- Driving for company-related tasks.
- Handling cryogenic fluids, including liquid nitrogen.
- Working near equipment that generates high magnetic fields.
- Engaging with materials governed by hazardous substances regulations.
- Operating heavy machinery, including forklifts and overhead cranes.
- Traveling outside of Europe or North America for company business.
