Position Overview

Communications Specialist

Compensation: £27,000-£30,000 DOE

Work Schedule: 37.5 hours per week / Monday to Friday / pm

Employment Type: Permanent, Fulltime / Hybrid (minimum 1 day per week in the office)

Location: Northampton / London - Hybrid (with regular travel to various nurseries and offices as necessary)

Role Summary:

The Communications Specialist will assist in the implementation of the organization's public relations strategy under the guidance of the PR Manager. This position involves crafting compelling narratives for trade, sector, local, and national media using various multimedia platforms to highlight the initiatives and promote the Bright Horizons brand in alignment with the company's PR objectives. The role encompasses both proactive and reactive communications and necessitates close collaboration with the Content and Communications, Marketing, and Social Media teams, as well as nursery operations and other support functions to develop engaging content that showcases the unique selling points of our nurseries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establishing a network of contacts and collaborators throughout the nursery portfolio.
  • Creating and disseminating engaging stories, press releases, and social media content.
  • Proactively identifying media opportunities to leverage newsjacking that aligns with key messaging.
  • Building and nurturing relationships with journalists to secure coverage across local and trade media outlets and online platforms.
  • Generating monthly reports that detail the effectiveness and impact of PR initiatives.
  • Ensuring all content adheres to the appropriate brand tone of voice.
  • Researching and gathering information from colleagues to produce relevant and timely communications.
  • Understanding the types of stories that resonate with journalists and developing a framework for producing engaging content to maximize coverage.

Qualifications Required:

  • A relevant degree or qualification, or a minimum of two years' experience in a similar capacity.
  • Exceptional written communication skills and a proven ability to tell engaging stories, as demonstrated by a portfolio of work.
  • Experience collaborating with multiple stakeholders.
  • Highly organized, a true team player with a proactive attitude who enjoys being active and engaged.
  • Able to perform under pressure, managing multiple and flexible deadlines.
  • Previous experience in direct and confident communication with journalists.
  • Proficient in utilizing data, AI, and numerical insights to inform strategy, assess impact, and enhance quality – familiarity with tools such as Gaggle, Meltwater, and Sprinklr is desirable.
  • Willingness to travel for meetings and nursery visits.
