Southall, Greater London, United Kingdom National Autistic Society Full time

About Us:

The National Autistic Society stands as the foremost charity in the UK dedicated to supporting individuals on the autism spectrum. Since our inception in 1962, we have been pivotal in transforming lives, shifting perceptions, and fostering a society that accommodates both autistic adults and children.

Our mission is to enhance lives by offering assistance, guidance, and practical resources to the 700,000 autistic individuals in the UK, along with their three million family members and caregivers. We are a trusted resource during critical moments in their lives, whether it involves obtaining a diagnosis, navigating the education system, or securing employment.

We strive to reshape societal attitudes by increasing public awareness of autism and the challenges faced by many autistic individuals. Collaborating closely with businesses, local authorities, and government entities, we aim to create more autism-friendly environments, improve service delivery, and advocate for better legislation.

Although we have made significant strides, our work is far from complete. There remains a pressing need to expand opportunities, mitigate social isolation, and construct a brighter future for those on the spectrum. With your support, we can realize this vision.

What We Offer:

  • Comprehensive pension scheme
  • Robust induction, training, and development programs, including specialized training on autism and opportunities to participate in our conferences
  • Access to an online staff discount platform featuring various benefits (such as a cycle-to-work scheme and season ticket loans)
  • Availability of a 24-hour employee assistance program
  • Access to the Headspace App for mental well-being

We are deeply committed to facilitating employment opportunities for autistic individuals and actively encourage applications from those on the spectrum. Our organization values diversity and strives to reflect this in our staff and volunteers. We particularly welcome applications from individuals belonging to underrepresented minority groups within our workforce. Together, we can cultivate a society that is inclusive for autistic individuals.

About Our School:

Sybil Elgar School is seeking experienced educators who can lead a team of skilled support staff while actively engaging in the school community.

Join Us in Making a Difference:

A breakthrough can manifest in the smallest of ways, yet it can significantly impact the lives of those on the autism spectrum. By becoming a Teacher at The National Autistic Society, you will contribute to making these everyday breakthroughs a reality.

We are in search of a dedicated Primary Teacher with a background in music, although we welcome applications from all interested Primary educators; we also seek a Science Teacher for our Secondary pupils and an English, Drama & Performance Teacher for our Further Education Campus. You will be working with autistic children in an educational setting.

Recognized as Outstanding by Ofsted in January 2022, Sybil Elgar School provides educational support for children and young people on the autism spectrum aged 4-22. We are committed to delivering tailored support to meet the unique learning and educational needs of our students across our sites.

Working with children and young adults with special educational needs presents its challenges, yet our dedicated staff join us with the understanding that positively influencing a young person's learning journey is invaluable.

We require you to be:

Resilient, compassionate, and sensitive to the needs of autistic children.

We are looking for Teachers who possess:

• Qualified Teacher Status

• Passion for supporting pupils with complex behavioral needs
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with a capacity to lead by example
• Enthusiasm for curriculum innovations and effective teaching methodologies
