About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Cook to join our team at BD Group. As an Assistant Cook, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our commercial kitchen, preparing and serving high-quality meals to children and staff in a school lunch service environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Cook Supervisor in maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment, adhering to strict health and safety protocols.
  • Prepare and cook a variety of meals, following agreed-upon recipes and ingredients, using commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Conduct stock control and inventory management, ensuring efficient use of resources and minimizing waste.
  • Provide excellent customer service, interacting with staff and children in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Collaborate with the Cook Supervisor to develop and implement new menu ideas and recipes, ensuring nutritional value and quality.
  • Maintain accurate records of food preparation, storage, and disposal, adhering to health and safety regulations.
Requirements
  • Minimum of Food Hygiene Level 2 qualification.
  • Qualification in Hospitality & Catering, Food Safety, or a related field (desirable).
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail, with a focus on quality and safety.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy equipment and supplies, as required.
Working Arrangements
  • 25 hours per week, Monday to Friday (Term time only).
  • Location: Harlow.
  • Enhanced DBS check required for this role.
