About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Highway Engineer to join our growing team at SYSTRA. As a key member of our infrastructure design team, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality highway projects from feasibility through to detailed design.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist and support the Infrastructure Director for the South of England and Associate Director in the delivery of projects.
  • Win and deliver projects safely, efficiently, and effectively.
  • Work closely with private and public sector clients of all types and across all sectors locally and regionally.
  • Form part of an existing team delivering a varied programme of highway and transportation schemes for a wide range of public and private sector clients.
  • Work on development infrastructure projects from feasibility through to detailed design, including highway design and drainage design.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical outputs, coordinate with other disciplines, and represent the business internally and externally.
  • Play a key role in the leadership and development of the team, projects, clients, and business performance.
  • Lead projects and be responsible for projects, delivery, budgets, resourcing, planning, and programming.
Requirements
  • MEng/MSc or BEng in Civil Engineering, ideally with Chartered status (ICE or CIHT) or working towards Professional Qualification.
  • At least 7 years' experience in Civil Engineering within a consultancy environment.
  • Good knowledge and experience of delivering highway & drainage design, S278/38 Approval process, and design principles.
  • Experience of highway technical design on major and minor projects, including a good understanding of DMRB, MCHW, MfS, TSM, Local Authority guides, etc.
  • Good knowledge of standard engineering practices, Health and Safety, and CDM.
  • IT literate with excellent knowledge of AutoCAD/Civil3D and other civil engineering packages.
  • Experience of project management, financial and commercial aspects of projects, and determining appropriate solutions with innovation and value.
  • Excellent communications skills, ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and clients, and manage client expectations.
  • Experience in line managing and providing technical oversight for delivery teams.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a range of design teams and project stakeholders.
  • Excellent written skills, ability to prepare technical reports and fee proposals, and deliver on time while handling multiple projects/tasks.
