About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join Network Rail as a Level Crossing Support Assistant, working closely with our Level Crossing Managers to ensure the safe and efficient management of level crossings.

Key Responsibilities

As a Level Crossing Support Assistant, you will be responsible for:

1. Assisting Level Crossing Managers with pre and post-site visit preparation, including arranging joint site visits with stakeholders, corresponding with authorized users, and documenting responses.

2. Undertaking level crossing inspections, faulting, and undertaking minor maintenance, including cameras, cleaning of signs, minor repairs, and vegetation management around the approaches and access area of level crossings.

3. Supporting Level Crossing Managers with analyzing, documenting, and tracking trend changes from census camera footage, raising significant changes, deliberate acts of misuse, and visible trends in usage.

4. Assisting Level Crossing Managers with the preparation of narrative risk assessments, including analyzing census camera data and chasing up information from stakeholders.

5. Supporting Level Crossing Managers in the preparation of and attendance at Road Rail Partnership Group meetings, taking minutes and actions as required.

6. Working with stakeholders on behalf of Level Crossing Managers to manage outputs from meetings, progress fault rectification, and updates to systems.

7. Supporting the Level Crossing team by tracking completed Fatality and Weighted Injuries (FWI) reduction activity and updating the Benefit Report periodically.

8. Supporting Level Crossing Managers with compliance, including maintaining incident databases, monitoring trends and trigger points, and preparing joint long-term strategy documents.

9. Assisting Level Crossing Managers with projects, including signal renewals and timetable changes.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• Proven excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Demonstrable excellent interpersonal skills

• Proven analytical awareness and attention to detail

• Successful experience in planning and organization

• Proven time management skills

• Ability and willingness to drive vehicles as required by business need

• Computer literacy in basic IT packages

Desirable Qualifications

• Understanding of level crossings

• Attained a Health & Safety qualification

• Experience of working in a safety-critical environment
