Job Title: GIS Architect

LA International is seeking a highly experienced GIS Architect to join our team. As a key member of our geosolutions team, you will be responsible for leading the design and implementation of our customers' GIS infrastructure and solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Design and architect GIS systems to ensure scalability, reliability, and performance.
  2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define GIS requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
  3. Develop and maintain GIS architecture documentation, including system diagrams, data flow models, and design standards.
  4. Evaluate and recommend GIS technologies, tools, and methodologies to enhance the organization's GIS capabilities.
  5. Oversee the integration of GIS solutions with other enterprise systems and databases, ensuring seamless data flow and interoperability.
  6. Provide guidance on best practices for data management, spatial analysis, and application development within the GIS environment.
  7. Monitor and assess the performance of GIS systems, implementing improvements and optimizations as needed.
  8. Manage GIS projects, including planning, resource allocation, and stakeholder communication, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  9. Mentor and support GIS staff, providing technical leadership and fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
Requirements:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Geography, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  2. 7+ years of experience in GIS architecture, design, and implementation, with a focus on enterprise-level GIS solutions.
  3. At least 5+ years in a GIS Developer / Sr. role.
  4. Strong proficiency in GIS software and technologies, including ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise Suite, Open-Source Web GIS tools like GeoServer, OpenLayers, Leaflet, QGIS, and related tools.
  5. Experience with cloud-based GIS platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, and ArcGIS Online) and enterprise GIS solutions.
  6. Solid understanding of database management systems (e.g., PostgreSQL / PostGIS, SQL Server or Oracle Spatial) and data modeling.
  7. Strong knowledge of web services and APIs, including REST and SOAP, for integrating GIS with other applications.
  8. Proven experience in project management and leading cross-functional teams.
  9. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and make data-driven decisions.
  10. Experience of AI/ML usage in GIS Applications.
Domain Experience:
  1. Railways, Government especially in UK, Utilities (Electric, Water, and Gas), and Insurance.
  2. Able to travel to client sites in and out of the region (typically infrequent multi-day trips or rare multi-week trips, currently in the UK but potentially overseas in the future).
  3. A GIS evangelist who comfortably and enthusiastically engages non-techies in discussions about technology.
