Public Engagement Manager

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Public Engagement Manager to join our team at The Francis Crick Institute. As a key member of our Communications and Public Engagement Directorate, you will play a crucial role in shaping the Institute's public engagement strategy and delivering innovative programs that engage diverse audiences with our science.

Key Responsibilities
  • Managing the Public Program
    • Develop and deliver a comprehensive public events program that showcases the Institute's research and engages diverse audiences.
    • Oversee the project management of public events, working closely with our Public Engagement Officers to ensure successful delivery.
  • Embedding a Culture of Engagement
    • Develop and implement a coordinated approach to embed public engagement throughout the Institute, raising awareness, building capacity, and skills, and supporting participation.
    • Design and deliver a comprehensive public engagement training offer for all Crick staff to build understanding, skills, and confidence.
  • Operational and Line Management
    • Line manage two Public Engagement Officers, providing guidance and support to ensure successful delivery of public engagement programs.
    • Manage the live events and training budget, ensuring effective use of resources and delivering high-quality programs.
Requirements
  • Extensive experience working in public engagement, preferably within a science engagement context.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of good practice in public engagement with science and ability to translate cutting-edge science into innovative and inclusive programming.
  • Experience of working closely with scientists or academics to develop and deliver engaging content for diverse audiences.
  • Strong project management skills, with experience of developing, implementing, and evaluating live events involving multiple partners and stakeholders.
  • Ability to facilitate meetings, workshops, and conversations between individuals or groups with different levels of knowledge and confidence.
  • Appreciation of the wider social and ethical context of biomedical research.
  • Budget management experience.
