Job Summary:

Job Title: Retail Store Manager

Job Summary: The Retail Store Manager is responsible for maintaining a positive and productive work environment and for establishing and maintaining excellent customer service. This position oversees and is accountable for the operation of a retail store ensuring maximum sales and profitability through merchandise, inventory, expense control, human resource management, and managing operating costs and shrinkage.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Embody the Company Culture: Embody the company culture of treating employees as our #1 priority.
  2. Customer Service: Greet and assist customers in a positive, approachable manner. Answer questions and resolve customer concerns.
  3. Team Management: Maintain a positive presence in the store by providing excellent customer service. Hold team members accountable for providing exceptional customer service.
  4. Coaching and Development: Give team members the support and guidance they need. Conduct one on one coaching sessions and meetings as needed with team members. Coach team members individually, with expectations and follow up.
  5. Safety and Security: Ensure a safe working environment. Maintain situational awareness, identify and rectify any safety issues or violations of law or company policy.
  6. Business Analysis: Analyze and measure business trends; develop and implement plans to maximize sales and meet or exceed goals and objectives.
  7. Expense Control: Control shrink, expenses, and payroll. Payroll should be analyzed weekly and controlled to a point to maximize profitability, while maintaining proper staffing levels to ensure exceptional customer service.
  8. Inventory Management: Ensure appropriate merchandise stock levels, merchandise adjacencies and presentations; signing, and assortment in all departments; ensure selling floor is adequately stocked. Monitor inventory levels, and adjust as necessary to optimize turns.
  9. Store Walks and Department Walks: Conduct store walks, department walks and yard walks. Go over issues found with department head and follow up to see that issues are corrected.
  10. Performance Evaluation: Continually evaluate and react to performance issues.
  11. Recruitment and Training: Actively recruit candidates as needed. Train and develop team members in all aspects of the business; direct and monitor training and development for all store personnel.
  12. Performance Evaluations: Conduct performance evaluations on team members at 90 days, annually and as needed.
  13. Store Meetings: Conduct regular store meetings to convey important messages to team.
  14. Loss Prevention: Work with Operations Manager on loss prevention efforts.
  15. Display Maintenance: Work with merchandiser and store management to maintain promotional and permanent displays.
  16. Safety Training: Uphold safety standards and help administer safety training.
  17. Company Policies: Follow all company policies and procedures.
  18. Additional Responsibilities: Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  1. Education: High School Diploma or GED
  2. Experience: 3 + years of Retail Experience (preferred in hardware/lumber industry)
  3. Supervisory Experience: 1-3 years of supervising employees.
  4. Management Experience: 2-3 years of retail management experience preferred.
