Location: Derby

The Electrical Systems Engineer team will be part of the Novel Nuclear EC&I Team and will be responsible for the architecture of the electrical systems associated with the Novel Nuclear micro-reactors. The electrical systems will include the systems performing electrical power, conditioning, transmission, and distribution.

You will work within the Novel Nuclear EC&I Team, and will interface with the wider Novel Nuclear area to capture requirements for the electrical subsystems, inform whole plant systems engineering and design, identify architecture options, determine the architectures that best meet the requirements and restrictions, and derive the design definitions.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Capture and agree relevant high-level electrical requirements;
  2. Capture applicable design constraints and quality attributes;
  3. Translate requirements into an architecture for the Novel Nuclear micro-reactor electrical systems, being cognizant of defence in depth;
  4. Make design decisions relating to the electrical subsystems;
  5. Implement appropriate standards, regulations, and best practices in the architecture for the Novel Nuclear micro-reactor electrical systems;
  6. Carry out appropriate technical reviews and provide the required electrical engineering inputs to the project technical review gates;
  7. Provide support to the Novel Nuclear EC&I Team and the wider Novel Nuclear area as required;
  8. Discuss the architecture for the Novel Nuclear micro-reactor electrical systems with external organisations including the nuclear safety regulator, potential customers, and suppliers.

Requirements:

  1. Qualified to degree level or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline;
  2. Working knowledge of common electrical design codes, standards, and processes;
  3. Working knowledge of electrical power distribution systems and components;
  4. Membership of a professional engineering institution or working towards membership;
  5. Experience of working in the nuclear industry or other areas where high reliability and safety are required;
  6. Experience in planning and executing technical work packages and reporting progress as required;
  7. Experience applying appropriate analysis methods to underpin concept definitions and support the justification of design solutions.
