Leeds, Leeds, United Kingdom AECOM Full time
Job Overview

Embark on a journey of growth.

Are you dedicated to the field of heritage conservation and possess the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders to facilitate intricate projects?

Join our esteemed Heritage team as a Senior Heritage Conservation Consultant, with opportunities available in our expanding offices. At AECOM, we excel in delivering outstanding projects through enduring collaborations with key clients. This role provides the chance to participate in a variety of initiatives, particularly within our expanding renewable energy sector. We seek a seasoned professional who flourishes in a cooperative team atmosphere, eager to contribute to and lead significant infrastructure projects from a heritage conservation viewpoint – guiding design teams to produce exceptional outcomes.

Your Responsibilities:

Offer Expertise:

Deliver insightful design and mitigation recommendations concerning heritage elements of major infrastructure projects. Lead the creation of heritage statements, Environmental Impact Assessment chapters, listed building consent applications, and other necessary heritage documentation. You should be confident in presenting these to regulatory bodies. All tasks will necessitate a comprehensive understanding of national and local heritage policies and legislation, along with a proven history of successful project delivery.

  • Collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team, effectively communicating with managers, consultants from various disciplines, and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Manage Listed Building Consents.
  • Conduct Setting Assessments.
  • Generate Heritage Statements, Environmental Statement chapters, and other application documents.
  • Provide design review and guidance in master planning, development design, and local/neighborhood plan site allocations.
  • Work autonomously, taking ownership of work programs, ensuring safety, and producing high-quality reports.
  • Project Management: Oversee and manage the preparation of bids using internal systems, assessing design resources within the discipline.

Ensure Quality:

  • Conduct desk-based assessments and prepare Environmental Statements.
  • Perform research and site evaluations to inform heritage assessments and setting evaluations.
  • Engage in statutory consultations and communicate with stakeholders through various channels.
  • Carry out on-site monitoring visits and document building conditions.

Collaborate Effectively:

  • Work closely with clients and AECOM colleagues to gain stakeholder support for solutions, while enhancing AECOM's broader technical capabilities and innovative strategies.
  • Provide design advice and options to client teams.
  • Collaborate with the broader Environmental Impact Assessment team to prepare impact assessments, including Environmental Statements.

If you are enthusiastic about innovation and transforming ambitious ideas into reality, AECOM is the place for you. Join our team, where we not only construct infrastructure but also uplift communities and enhance lives. Explore our AECOM Environment page for updates on impactful projects and witness the difference we are making in the industry.

Grow with us.

Become part of our dynamic Planning & Communities Business within the Environment & Sustainability Business Unit, which comprises experts across the UK & Ireland, including a team of heritage specialists with expertise in archaeology, historic landscapes, and built heritage. Collaborate with notable clients on various projects, including grid modernization, solar farms, water transfer, pipeline projects, and active travel schemes. At AECOM, you will thrive in an inclusive and forward-thinking environment where your contributions are valued.

We also offer a comprehensive range of core and personalized benefits tailored to support your future and well-being, designed to fit your lifestyle. Enjoy career development opportunities, a flexible hybrid working model for a balanced work-life, technical practice networks, AECOM University, and volunteering days.

Ready to challenge the boundaries of what is achievable?

We are looking for candidates who possess:

  • A relevant first degree and/or postgraduate qualification in historic buildings or a related field.
  • Appropriate membership level of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists or the Institute of Historic Building Conservation.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK heritage legislation and policy.
  • Comprehensive understanding of UK built heritage across various periods and building types, with experience in assessing historic buildings and their settings.
  • Experience in heritage consultancy, including the creation of heritage statements and EIA/DCO experience.
  • Experience in project management and cost estimation.
  • A client-focused approach with a positive attitude, capable of working collaboratively and diplomatically.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, working independently or as part of a team to meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills for client interactions and relationship building, ensuring high levels of customer service and timely reporting.
  • Willingness to travel and work flexibly as required.

We celebrate diversity and believe it enriches our team. We welcome applications from all backgrounds and abilities. If you are an applicant with a disability requiring reasonable accommodation to complete the application process, please reach out to us. At AECOM, we value everyone's unique contributions and perspectives.
