Job Title: Apprentice Design Engineer

Based in Inverclyde, our client in the shipbuilding industry is seeking a skilled Design Engineer (Outfit Detail Designer) to join their team on a permanent basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating detailed 2D design layouts and arrangements, taking into consideration client requirements and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Liaise with electrical, mechanical, and structural teams to manage technical queries and ensure designs meet regulatory class requirements.
  2. Work closely with the customer and subcontractors to address any design-related issues or concerns, and review and modify designs based on feedback from internal and external stakeholders.
  3. Carry out on-site vessel reviews to assist with drawing creation and support Production teams, and ensure all outputs are aligned to Planning and Production schedules.
  4. Requisition materials from BoMs and work with the Procurement team when suppliers suggest alternative materials, and review 3D model and consult with European Design Team where required.
  5. Complete drawings efficiently and adhere to all health and safety guidelines appropriate to the role.
Requirements:
  1. Proficient use of AutoCAD (or similar design software) and Microsoft Office.
  2. Minimum of 4 years drawing office or detail design experience, preferably within the commercial shipbuilding industry.
  3. A good understanding of ship outfitting requirements and UK passenger ship regulations.
  4. HNC/HND/relevant time-served apprenticeship preferred.
  5. HVAC and structural knowledge would be preferred, but not essential.
  6. Production experience would also be preferred, but not essential.
