HGV Mechanic Job Description

We are seeking a skilled HGV Mechanic to join our team at Nicholl Oil Group. As a key member of our transportation function, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our fleet.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintenance and repair of all vehicle types, including plant equipment and site machinery.
  • Conduct routine inspections, including part and machinery repair cost analysis, to identify areas for improvement.
  • Perform vehicle roadworthiness inspections and produce defect diagnosis reports.
  • Monitor vehicle wear and tear, recording any abnormalities and reporting to the Lead Mechanic or Operations Director.
  • Carry out general repairs, major overhauls, or replacements of vehicle engines and gearboxes as required.
  • Attend vehicle breakdowns and conduct roadside repairs as necessary.
  • Liaise with the Mechanic Supervisor or Operations Director to determine work specifications and consult with the Service Manager on KPIs and costings.
  • Responsible for vehicle and maintenance site security, adhering to all relevant health and safety legislation.
Requirements:
  • Fully qualified to City & Guilds level 3, BTEC, or NVQ in Heavy Vehicle Mechanics, Maintenance & Repair, or equivalent.
  • At least two years' experience in a workshop environment, conducting a similar role that demonstrates teamwork and ability.
  • Practical knowledge of modern diagnostic equipment and techniques.
  • Computer literacy and a full, valid driving license.
  • Ability to work in a busy and high-pressure environment, with a can-do attitude and high level of enthusiasm and self-motivation.

Location: Head Office, Greysteel and Belfast

Hours: 08.00am - 5.00pm, Monday to Friday (One-hour lunch break unpaid)

Salary: £18.00 - £20.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience
