Job Title: Technical Operations Manager

Job Summary:

The Technical Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective performance of all ships assigned, owned, and operated by North Star. This role requires strong leadership and technical expertise to advise and update the Chief Technology Officer on ship operations, monitor budgets, and oversee maintenance to ensure seaworthiness and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Technical Department to ensure continuity of support to ship's staff and other departments within the company.
  • Liaise with Classification societies, Port State, and Flag State to address new requirements or perceived problems.
  • Assist and support Vessel Superintendents to achieve their objectives, including keeping vessels up to standard, in 'Class,' with maximum availability, and within agreed budgets.
  • Monitor the performance of vessel's Engineering Officers and Assistants and take prompt action when unacceptable practices or behaviors are identified.
  • Hold regular meetings with Technical Superintendents and the Chief Technology Officer to discuss budgets, projects, and other issues.
  • Undertake ship visits on board all vessels on a regular basis.
  • Review and assess the performance of relevant technical staff for annual performance bonuses and appraisals.
  • Deputize for the Chief Technology Officer as necessary.
  • Provide out-of-hours service as required.
  • Actively promote and progress the company's Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental Policy.
  • Participate in the Emergency Response Team as needed.

Requirements:

  • Managerial experience in the offshore support vessel sector is required.
  • Preferably qualified to Chief Engineer Unlimited standard or a recognized equivalent.
  • Good working knowledge of electronic Planned Maintenance Systems and Purchasing systems is essential.
