Position Overview
The role of the Assistant Matron for Transplant and Urology Services is pivotal in ensuring a respectful and secure perioperative atmosphere for patients, staff, and visitors alike.
Key Responsibilities:
- Upholding stringent aseptic and infection control protocols
- Engaging collaboratively with the multidisciplinary medical, surgical, and allied health teams
- Facilitating the safe transport of both conscious and unconscious patients across various acute care settings, including imaging, wards, and surgical theatres, while maintaining their dignity and safety
- Actively participating as a member of the surgical team, ensuring a secure and sanitized environment for patient reception during the perioperative phase
- Delivering exceptional patient care under the mentorship and oversight of senior nursing staff or operating department practitioners
Hygiene and Safety Standards:
It is essential to maintain all surgical areas to a high standard of cleanliness in accordance with infection control guidelines.
Main Duties:
As a vital member of the surgical team, your contributions will include:
- Ensuring that all areas within the surgical suite are orderly and that sufficient stock levels are upheld
- Preparing, cleaning, and positioning surgical equipment, furnishings, and lighting in line with operational schedules and institutional policies
- Verifying, connecting, and preparing equipment and supplies for registered surgical personnel throughout the patient's perioperative journey
- Assisting registered surgical staff by opening sterile packs and maneuvering equipment as necessary
- Helping with the positioning and movement of conscious and unconscious patients in readiness for surgical procedures or treatments, ensuring that intravenous infusions, drains, or catheters are correctly positioned
- Providing support and reassurance to patients during local anaesthetic interventions
- Completing all necessary documentation, including patient records, theatre registers, and care plans
- Managing clinical waste, linen, and sharps within surgical areas and preparing them for collection, adhering to local health and safety regulations
- Conducting daily cleaning of theatres, recovery areas, and corridors as required, in compliance with the Trust's Infection Control Policy, and ensuring changing rooms are maintained in a tidy condition
