Role Summary
We are seeking a skilled Legal Advocate with experience from either a barrister's chambers or a civil litigation background to join our dedicated advocacy team. While experience in personal injury law is preferred, we welcome candidates with broader litigation expertise.
The successful candidate will represent clients in trials across England and Wales, handling various advocacy tasks including CMCs, CCMCs, Interim Hearings, IAHs, and Stage 3 portal Hearings, primarily focusing on claimant personal injury cases. Opportunities to engage in multi-track litigation are also available.
Independence and a commitment to high-quality work are essential, along with the ability to manage workloads effectively and maintain meticulous attention to detail. You will receive instructions akin to those given to external counsel. Ideally, candidates should be located in the North West or within a reasonable commuting distance to the South of England.
This position offers the opportunity to work within a well-established and expanding firm, collaborating closely with solicitor owner-managers. You will be an integral part of the advocacy team, reporting directly to the Head of Advocacy, and will join as the firm's third in-house advocate.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct advocacy as required.
- Perform drafting tasks, including formal and informal advices, pleadings, and skeleton arguments.
- Stay informed about procedural changes, case law, and legislative developments.
- Support junior advocates with their advocacy and drafting tasks.
- Ensure the delivery of a high-quality advocacy service.
- Travel extensively across England and Wales, which may involve overnight stays.
Essential Qualifications
- Current practicing certificate.
- Higher Rights of Audience (if applicable).
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
- Strong understanding of the Civil Procedure Rules.
- Proven advocacy experience.
- Ability to perform under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Flexible and adaptable approach.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong commitment to confidentiality and discretion.
- Proficient in IT, including Microsoft Office and Case Management Systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in personal injury litigation.
- Familiarity with Proclaim Case Management System.
- Possession of a personal vehicle is preferred (travel expenses will be reimbursed).
Compensation and Benefits
- Competitive salary based on experience.
- Standard working hours are Monday to Thursday from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM and Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
