Hinxton, United Kingdom Wellcome Sanger Institute Full time

Join Our Mission:
Are you passionate about advancing human health and exploring the complexities of life on Earth? Contribute to transformative scientific research aimed at addressing some of the most pressing challenges faced by humanity.

Position Overview:
We are looking for a dedicated and skilled Senior Research Technician for a fixed-term position, specializing in human-induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPS cells), to become a vital part of the Haniffa Lab within the Cellular Genetics programme at the Wellcome Sanger Institute.

Your Responsibilities:
As a Senior Research Technician, you will engage in hands-on laboratory activities, focusing on the cultivation of hiPS cells and refining the production of organoids. This will involve integrating established protocols, reviewing relevant literature, and collaborating with the computational team to enhance experimental outcomes.

Your primary focus will be on developing in vitro organoid models derived from hiPS cells. You will be expected to independently manage and execute intricate experimental tasks to meet the objectives set by the lead scientists.

Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate will be flexible in adapting to the requirements of tissue culture and possess a high degree of precision, given the significant costs associated with reagents and the lengthy protocols involved in organoid differentiation. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for effective collaboration with Staff Scientists and other team members, as well as those in the Cellular Operations facilities.

A keen interest in hematopoietic development is crucial for this role.

About Our Research:
Our team employs innovative techniques and advanced computational tools to investigate the genomics of cell populations at a single-cell level. Our research aims to:

  • Decode the development and functional maturation of the immune system.
  • Examine its impact on both the developing and adult human body in various health and disease contexts, particularly focusing on skin and skin organoids.
  • Create in vitro models of hematopoietic organs.

This work is part of the Human Cell Atlas initiative, which seeks to establish a comprehensive reference map of all human cells throughout development and aging, facilitating the creation of accurate in vitro models and improving disease diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment.

Our Commitment:
We are dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace, attracting talent from a broad spectrum of backgrounds. Our supportive culture includes various staff networks aimed at promoting shared experiences and providing specific support and development opportunities.

Employee Wellbeing:
We prioritize the health and wellbeing of our employees, implementing a comprehensive wellbeing strategy that emphasizes the importance of a healthy lifestyle and reducing work-related stress.
