Countrystyle Recycling is a family-owned enterprise dedicated to resource management, where our employees and clients are integral to our mission and commitment to providing solution-oriented services.
About the Role:
The Banksman will oversee the safe movement and loading/unloading of vehicles, as well as the operation of mobile machinery.
This role involves monitoring the movements of excavators and other equipment, ensuring safety by keeping an eye out for obstacles, vehicle movements, and pedestrians.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with legal requirements during vehicle reversing.
- Work to minimize accidents related to reversing vehicles.
- Limit reversing maneuvers and be aware of associated hazards.
- Utilize effective hand signals to assist drivers during maneuvers.
- Maintain visibility to drivers at all times.
- Position oneself safely to guide vehicles without obstruction.
- Wear high-visibility clothing, such as reflective gear, to ensure signals are clearly seen.
- Adhere to all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements on site.
- Communicate effectively using a 2-way radio; strong communication skills are essential.
- Report any near-miss incidents involving vehicle movements to the Operations Manager and Shift Supervisors.
- Comply with all Health, Safety, HR, and Environmental policies and procedures.
- Ensure that no bins or skips are placed in the main yard.
- Enforce the one-way system and speed limits at all times.
- Manage holding bays and the safe parking of all vehicles on site.
- Direct traffic at the weighbridge during peak times.
- Guide deliveries to the appropriate departments.
- Ensure all personnel comply with site PPE requirements.
- Prevent drivers from leaving vehicles unattended in undesignated areas.
- Ensure pedestrian routes are followed, prohibiting shortcuts across the yard.
The above responsibilities are not exhaustive, and the post holder may be required to undertake additional tasks as reasonably expected within the scope of the position. Job descriptions are reviewed regularly to ensure they accurately reflect the role.

- Trained as a Banksman.
