About the Role

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented General Practice Assistant to join our team at Havering Health Ltd. As a General Practice Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting our General Practitioners in providing high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the streamlining of clinics by performing routine administrative and clinical tasks
  • Support the preparation of patients for GP consultations, including taking brief histories and basic readings
  • Deal with routine clinical post, including DNA letters and 2WW referrals
  • Arrange appointments, referrals, and follow-up appointments for patients
  • Prepare patients for procedures, including explaining treatment options and arranging follow-up appointments
  • Support the GP with immunisations and wound care
  • Carry out tasks set by the PCN Clinical Director, PCN Manager, and the wider PCN multi-disciplinary team
Requirements
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to complete forms, including clinical investigations and referral templates
  • Strong organisational skills, including planning, prioritising, and time management
  • Understanding of the requirements for handling information in health and social care settings
  • Ability to work within limits of competence and seek advice when needed
  • Ability to build and maintain long-term working relationships with colleagues
  • Professional and compassionate attitude to patient care, providing support while maintaining professional boundaries
  • Ability to remain diplomatic when dealing with sensitive matters or having challenging discussions with patients or carers
  • Willingness to take a proactive and flexible approach to the role as it develops over time
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience of working in health, social care, or other support roles in direct contact with people, families, or carers
  • Experience of working within multi-professional team environments
  • Understanding of clinical policies and procedures, including infection control
  • Phlebotomy experience, including preparing, obtaining, and transporting venous blood samples
  • Experience of using the EMIS clinical system
