Senior Psychiatric Consultant for Youth Services

We are looking for a qualified Senior Psychiatric Consultant to join our established team dedicated to Children and Young People’s Services in Surrey Heath.

The successful candidate will provide clinical expertise and leadership to our Northeast Hampshire Community Team, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team in accordance with innovative working practices and our i-THRIVE framework.

Our services encompass a range of community support, integrated health and social care, early intervention strategies, and specialized therapeutic programs. We prioritize high-quality care aimed at helping individuals manage their conditions effectively and work towards recovery.

Key Responsibilities

Your role will involve delivering diagnostic assessments and treatment services for children and adolescents facing mental health challenges, fostering a collaborative multidisciplinary approach to care. A full-time consultant typically conducts 2-3 assessments monthly, with follow-up reviews scheduled after 6 weeks of treatment and subsequently every 2-3 months.

You will also participate in an emergency out-of-hours rota, providing essential support for junior medical staff and professionals assessing young individuals in emergency settings.

There will be opportunities to mentor, supervise, and train Junior Medical Staff within the team.

Qualifications
  • MB BS or equivalent recognized medical qualification.
  • Full medical registration with a license to practice.
  • Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act (or within 6 to 12 months of the interview/assessment) or equivalent.
  • Relevant higher degree, e.g., MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications.
  • MRCPsych or equivalent.
  • Management qualification or evidence of interest in developing leadership skills.
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a license to practice at the time of appointment.
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within three months of appointment.
  • In good standing with GMC concerning warnings and conditions on practice.
Clinical Skills, Knowledge & Experience
  • Understanding of legislation, Department of Health Guidance, and its implications for clinical practice.
  • Knowledge of NHS strategic vision in the Next Stage Review (High-Quality Care for All).
  • Excellent clinical skills utilizing a bio-psycho-social perspective and comprehensive medical knowledge.
  • Experience working with diverse patient groups presenting a wide range of clinical severity across various care settings, including community, inpatient, and specialized teams.
  • Specific training qualification/certificate or attendance on a recognized teaching course.
Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This position is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, necessitating a Disclosure submission to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Salary range: £99,532 to £131,964 per annum plus £149 Fringe Allowance.
