Job Summary

We are looking for a dedicated and passionate Academic Support Specialist to provide personalized academic support and guidance to students with specific learning difficulties (SpLDs). As a Specialist-one-to-one Study Skills Support Worker, you will develop a customized learning plan to meet the specific needs of each student, fostering their independence in learning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-to-one academic support and guidance to students with SpLDs
  • Develop customized learning plans to meet the specific needs of each student
  • Support students to develop independence, build on strengths and learning strategies, and create strategies around organization and time management
  • Assist students in creating action plans to stay on track with their studies
  • Support students in building research skills, widening knowledge by using a variety of sources, and distinguishing appropriate sources and how to correctly use references
  • Support students in building comprehension skills within reading and writing
Requirements
  • Membership with one of the following professional bodies: British Dyslexia Association (BDA), Professional Membership The Association of Dyslexia (ADSHE), Dyslexia Guild, or The Professional Association of Teachers of Students with Specific Learning Difficulties (PATOSS)
  • Experience of working with clients with specific learning difficulties
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to identify ways of helping students to build on their learning strengths while maintaining a confidential and professional working relationship
  • Punctuality and reliability
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to manage a caseload of students
