Job Opportunity: Head of Planning

We are partnering with a Local Authority in Swindon to assist with the appointment of a Head of Planning on a 6-month contract, with a high likelihood of extension at the client's discretion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership and management of a portfolio of strategic planning infrastructure delivery and growth services, aligning with Council priorities and financial targets.
  • Take strategic responsibility for large revenue and staff budgets, as well as locally funded capital investment programs, ensuring the council's statutory planning services and duties are met.
  • Strategically oversee the development of a coordinated strategic infrastructure delivery strategy, ensuring all areas of the Council are represented and their requirements are fully integrated into the long-term planning of the Borough.
  • Act as lead officer and professional planning advisor for the Planning Committee.
  • Coordinate and manage external consultants, partners, and expert consultees, ensuring each organization or group can input effectively and understands their roles and responsibilities.

Requirements:

  • Proven leadership ability at senior level within a Local Authority environment, covering key development management and planning policy functions.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent qualification, with considerable relevant experience or equivalent level of knowledge and relevant experience.
  • Membership of or eligibility for membership of a relevant professional body.
