Engineering Projects Manager (referred to internally as Central Engineering Projects Manager)

Position Overview

  • Contribute to the overall success of the organization by ensuring that facilities, machinery, site services, and infrastructure are maintained to the standards required for food production.
  • Actively engage as a member of the Central Engineering Team to achieve internal customer satisfaction, uphold Health and Safety standards, ensure compliance, meet technical specifications, manage capital budgets, and drive manufacturing excellence.
  • Capable of delivering a comprehensive range of capital projects within a food production setting, from initial concept through to final handover, utilizing established project management methodologies.
  • Oversee capital expenditure management.
  • Supervise and monitor the execution of capital projects, coordinating with site teams, manufacturers, suppliers, and contractors to ensure timely and budget-compliant completion. Implement a structured project framework encompassing inception, planning, execution, post-implementation reviews, and success audits.
  • Focused on construction and civil engineering, this role will oversee various new construction and expansion projects across multiple sites, managing budgets ranging from £100k to £30 million.
  • Manage all internal renovations and facility requirements across all sites.
  • Collaborate with the legal team to ensure that contracts and warranties are appropriate and effective.
  • Ensure that the company’s Health and Safety, Environmental, Hygiene, and Communication policies are adhered to by all engineering personnel, emphasizing safe working practices.
  • Confirm that all necessary testing of machinery and equipment is conducted in accordance with relevant statutory regulations for all new equipment associated with capital expenditures.
  • Ensure that both contractors and internal staff follow safe working procedures, risk assessments, and standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure that company policies regarding grievances and disciplinary actions are applied consistently, liaising with HR as necessary.
  • Foster effective teamwork, particularly focusing on integration with other departments, promoting a unified approach.
  • Communicate with factory management teams to ensure that contractor activities are clearly understood and communicated through project managers, facilitating transparent interactions.

Health & Safety Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with company standards and legal regulations within your area of responsibility.
  • Maintain safe working practices concerning Health, Safety, Environment, and Housekeeping, promptly addressing any hazards or unsafe practices.
  • Capable of conducting critical safety management processes, including:
    • Investigating accidents, incidents, and near misses
    • Conducting risk assessments
    • Implementing safe working systems and standard operating procedures
  • Provide guidance and support to Manufacturing, Technical, and other departments.
  • Lead by example to cultivate and maintain a culture of behavioral safety.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in food manufacturing or FMCG environments is essential.
  • Background in Project and Maintenance Engineering.
  • Awareness of product integrity in a live food production setting.
  • Proven experience in Project Engineering and Management.
  • Familiarity with Quality Management Systems.
  • Understanding of project management tools.
  • Experience in cost center management, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Knowledge of capital expenditure processes.
  • Familiarity with procurement processes.
  • Comprehensive understanding of legislative requirements related to Engineering and Food Safety.
