Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join our team at Parker Smith Inclusion. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational and personal development of our students with autism and associated conditions.

Parker Smith Inclusion is a special school located in the heart of Tower Hamlets, committed to providing exceptional education and support for children and young people aged 5 to 18 years old with autism and associated conditions. Our school employs a trauma-informed approach, ensuring that each child's emotional and psychological needs are met alongside their educational requirements.

Role Overview

We are looking for a passionate and empathetic Teaching Assistant who is dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of our students. The ideal candidate will embrace a holistic and therapeutic approach to education, working closely with our multidisciplinary team to support each child's individual needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist teachers in delivering tailored educational programs and activities.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students, adapting teaching methods to meet their unique needs.
  • Implement and support therapeutic strategies and interventions as part of the trauma-informed approach.
  • Foster a safe and inclusive learning environment that promotes emotional and social development.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other staff to monitor and track student progress.
  • Assist with the preparation of learning materials and classroom resources.
  • Support students with personal care and mobility needs, if required.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Experience working with children or young people with autism and associated conditions.
  • Understanding of and commitment to a trauma-informed approach in education.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting children's development.
  • Relevant qualifications in education or special educational needs (desirable but not essential).
