Position Overview

Are you a seasoned band 6 nurse eager to advance your professional journey? This is a remarkable opportunity to become a pivotal member of the nursing team on the Conservators Unit at Somerset NHS Foundation Trust as the Lead Nurse. We seek a proactive, motivated, and enthusiastic individual to guide a team dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assume accountability for directing and managing the clinical, administrative, and educational needs of a designated clinical area, ensuring robust systems are established to support continuous service delivery around the clock.
  • Provide nursing leadership within the unit on a daily basis, empowering staff to deliver patient-focused, evidence-based nursing care while adhering to budgetary constraints.
  • Maintain and evaluate care standards to ensure patient safety and quality, collaborating with senior management to address any deficiencies in care standards across all patient environments.
  • Be responsible for the clinical and managerial leadership of the unit, leading by example to ensure visibility and accessibility to staff, patients, and visitors, including performing direct patient care as needed.
  • Oversee the line management of a team that includes registered nurses, assistants, support staff, and clerical personnel, as outlined in the organizational structure.
  • Manage the financial responsibilities associated with the area.
  • Participate in the staffing rota as required.
  • Engage in the Senior Nurse Rota.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • Registered General Nurse (RGN) with a diploma level qualification and a commitment to pursuing or currently working towards a degree level qualification. Completion of a teaching mentorship course is also required.

Essential Experience

  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of nursing care, with the ability to make informed decisions based on evidence-based practices and effectively implement these on the unit. Proven organizational and leadership skills are essential.
