Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Radiation Protection Specialist to join our team at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. As a key member of our Radiology Physics department, you will provide expert scientific and technical advice to ensure the safe use of ionising radiation in diagnostic radiology.

Main Responsibilities

Management

  • Work closely with the Head of Radiology Physics to manage the activities of the group and plan services.
  • Deputise for the Head of Radiology Physics as required.

Scientific Support to Diagnostic Radiology

  • Initiate, plan, and introduce innovative techniques for the evaluation, commissioning, and continuing quality control of diagnostic x-ray equipment.
  • Provide leadership in specific areas of the group's work, including providing in-depth expertise, planning group strategy, and developing new ways of working.
  • Undertake critical examinations, commissioning tests, and quality control measurements on x-ray equipment to ensure safety and optimal performance.

Radiation Protection

  • Provide expert scientific and technical advice on radiation protection and medical physics to ensure compliance with statutory obligations.
  • Contribute to the formulation of departmental policy and management of the routine service.

Research and Development

  • Undertake research and development in Radiology Physics, establishing and maintaining collaborative links with other hospitals, universities, and industry.
  • Conduct research and development work to improve the Radiology Physics service and optimise radiological techniques.
  • Publish research in internationally recognised peer-reviewed journals and present at national/international meetings.

Teaching and Training

  • Deliver training to staff and students on radiation protection and related topics.
  • Assist in the training, supervision, and assessment of trainee physicists and technologists.
