About Our Team:

SAGE Publishing is a leading international publisher of journals, books, and digital products in the social sciences, humanities, and sciences. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Publishing Editor to join our thriving team of professionals who are passionate about research and academic publishing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage journal editor performance, establishing and implementing best practices for manuscript submission, peer review, and editorial board function.
  • Actively manage the profitability of assigned journals, with a focus on maximizing revenues and controlling costs.
  • Provide information and advice to journal editors and partner societies to improve the quality of content published in their journals.
  • Compile and assess key data and metrics to inform recommendations on each journal's development strategy.
  • Negotiate editor and society contract renewals, produce profit and loss statements, and lead contract approval processes.
  • Represent SAGE at conferences and lead journal editorial board meetings.
  • Liaise with other departments to ensure journals are produced, marketed, and distributed effectively.

Requirements:

  • Proficient in standard IT packages, including Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrable interest in and commitment to higher education and academic publishing.
  • Experience in running journals, ideally at an academic or scientific journal publisher.
  • Good understanding of the journal publication process and industry.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to deliver presentations and communicate information confidently and clearly.
  • Excellent relationship management skills, with the ability to build positive relationships internally and externally.
  • Project management skills, with the ability to work on multiple projects within tight time pressures.
