Job Title: Assistant Accountant

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Assistant Accountant to join our finance team at O'Hanlon & Farrell Contracts Ltd. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of our financial reporting and analysis.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Preparation of financial accounts, including quarterly divisional management accounts and year-end management accounts
  • Preparation of balance sheet reconciliations, including backup
  • Preparation of ad-hoc finance reports
  • Completion of statutory government returns, including VAT, RCT, and CIS
  • Monthly bank reconciliations
  • Purchase and subcontractor ledger management
  • Accounts payable function
  • Ensuring company control and procedures are followed
  • Maintaining monthly aged creditors report
  • Ensuring purchase ledger team complete quarterly supplier statement reconciliations
  • Monitoring supplier credit limits and negotiating settlement discounts
  • Processing UK CIS and ROI RCT-based subcontractor payments
  • Working with the quantity surveyor team to monitor project valuations and credit control
  • Reviewing and approving weekly PAYE/LOSC
  • Working closely with the finance team and financial controller on all key financial aspects of reporting within the business
  • Adhering to all internal finance deadlines
  • Developing in-house efficiencies, process improvement, reporting systems, and improving internal controls and procedures
Essential Experience:
  • Qualified Accounting Technician or Part Qualified Accountant or Qualified by Experience
  • A minimum of 4 years' experience within a busy finance function where they have managed others
  • Construction industry and Sage experience (desirable, but not essential)
Essential Skills:
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented
  • Excellent systems skills, including a strong grasp of Excel
  • Deadline-driven and a team player
  • Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving
  • Trustworthy and dependable
