Blood Transfusion Laboratory Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Blood Transfusion Laboratory Manager to join our team at Transformation Unit. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operational and technical delivery of the laboratory Haematology service.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage the staff and resources of general Haematology within the Haematology department.
- Manage the Phlebotomy service.
- Take a lead role in induction, training and development of all staff in the department.
- Be part of the long-term planning provided by the Haematology Laboratory Management Team.
- Act as Deputy Pathology Directorate Manager as required.
- Fellowship (FIBMS) / Masters Degree or equivalent in Biomedical Sciences.
- State registration with Health Care Professions Council.
- Management qualification or will be worked towards.
- Membership with IBMS.
- Willing to pursue further qualifications.
- Significant experience as a Senior Biomedical Scientist or equivalent experience.
- Experienced team member.
- Detailed working knowledge of laboratory IT systems and standard IT packages e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel etc.
- Evidence of CPD.
- Understanding of theoretical and practical Haematology laboratory procedures.
- Demonstrate a broad level of specialist laboratory experience in Haematology.
- Experience of authorising results for clinical use.
- Experience of interpreting complex diagnostic laboratory results.
- Understand quality assurance procedures.
- Experience of troubleshooting analysers and systems.
- Experience of training junior staff.
- Experience of managing junior staff.
- Understanding of the principles of staff appraisal.
- Understanding of the principles of audit.
- Experience of participation in EQA schemes.
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Experience of staff appraisal.
- Quality Management experience.
- Experience of audit.
- Understanding of budgetary management and control.
- Familiarity and compliance with UKAS accreditation requirements.
