Job Summary:

The Cooplands Area Manager will be responsible for the performance of Shops in their Area, delivering outstanding performance across Customer, Financial, People, and Operational Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive down waste and inefficiency, reviewing and adapting procedures to improve efficiency and maximize output, sharing best practices with colleagues.
  • Focus on continuously driving sales performance by understanding strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats both internally and externally.
  • Identify trends requiring action within the Profit and Loss (P&L) statement, understanding the cause and developing suitable strategic plans.
  • Monitor and manage labor percentages, budget hours, waste targets, and performance across Shops, ensuring the right balance of product availability, customer service, and efficiency.
  • Develop high-performing teams, identifying key skills gaps and putting development plans in place to address these and grow talent.
  • Monitor financial processes and audit Shops invoicing, ordering, and banking, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Company procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with EG Group policies and procedures, ensuring successful Shop performance and the highest levels of food safety and hygiene.
  • Audit stock control across Shops, ensuring accuracy, identifying losses, and investigating concerns.
  • Communicate promotional offers to teams, ensuring they have the tools needed to manage a successful promotion and maximize sales.
  • Regularly visit Shops to ensure they are compliant with agreed standards, running efficiently, and to the highest standards of customer service, product availability, and presentation.
  • Ensure Shops look vibrant, presentable, clean, and have a great atmosphere at all times.
  • Use local market knowledge to identify and act upon trading opportunities.
  • Anticipate future challenges and implement action plans to improve and maintain performance.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in an area/field management role.
  • Highly motivated and target-driven, with strong commercial skills, understanding the link between consistently high operational standards and results.
  • Naturally thinks customer-first, but also appreciates the benefits of a strong Brand; a strong advocate of 'One EG Group'.
  • Strong Leadership and People Management skills – confident to take the lead when required and capable of being a coach and mentor that enjoys motivating and supporting colleagues to grow and achieve results.
  • A team player who is comfortable leading by example and not afraid to 'get involved' to get the job done.
  • A creative but clear thinker, calm under pressure, capable of juggling multiple tasks to deliver competing priorities.
  • Solution-focused problem solver, who addresses the cause as well as the effect.
  • Analytical with a strong eye for detail. A pro-active, completer-finisher. A clear communicator, with strong interpersonal skills, capable of working collaboratively to build productive business relationships.

  • Strong track record of customer-facing experience within a retail or food-focused business, understands the benefits and challenges within a small-format retail environment.
  • Works collaboratively with Central Support Functions, feeding back, supporting, and driving key initiatives.
  • Car driver, comfortable traveling to multiple sites on a frequent basis.
