This is an exciting time to join the Royal Devon, as you will play a vital role in shaping our services during our integration journey.

Role Specifics

The Royal Devon is looking to appoint Consultant Physicians specializing in Geriatric and Stroke Medicine at the North Devon District Hospital site.

Established in April 2022, the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust combines the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust and the Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust to deliver core services to a population of 615,000 and specialized services to a broader audience across the South West Peninsula. This unique organization integrates acute and community services throughout North and Mid Devon, utilizing a unified advanced electronic notes system (EPIC) with an integrated patient portal. The departments focused on elderly care operate cohesively as a single team. Consultants provide both in-person and remote care from various sites. The department is committed to supporting newly appointed consultants in developing sub-specialty interests, as well as pursuing research and educational opportunities.

The Royal Devon is dedicated to enhancing services in North Devon and aims to attract the finest clinicians to this picturesque region. This role presents an excellent opportunity to influence and improve our elderly care services with the backing of our senior management and consultant team. Significant investments have been made in our infrastructure, including a dementia-friendly ward and improved pathways for frail patients to enhance access. We are also transforming our community hospital beds into a model for non-acute frailty services.

Our non-medical model is robust, featuring exceptional therapy leadership, and our Pathfinder team serves as a bridge between acute and community care, facilitating reduced admissions and supporting complex discharges. This team includes senior nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, social workers, and support staff, ensuring a high standard of patient care.

The Trust boasts a multi-million-pound clinical research facility, is a NIHR Biomedical Research Centre, and has ambitious plans for the future. Additionally, we are located in Devon, a region celebrated for its natural beauty, including stunning beaches and moorlands, excellent educational institutions, good transport connections, and a high quality of life.
