Thorn Baker Construction is seeking a dedicated Health and Safety Manager to join our growing team. This role plays a vital part in ensuring the well-being of our employees and maintaining a safe working environment across all our facilities nationwide.

As the Health and Safety Manager, you will be responsible for upholding rigorous health and safety standards and fostering a positive safety culture throughout our operations. You will have the autonomy to manage your schedule effectively and travel nationally to various sites.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular inspections and audits at all operating regions, taking prompt action and reporting on findings.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and potential hazards, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective measures.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive safety statistics to inform the development of our safety strategy.
  • Provide expert guidance and support to site and office staff on all aspects of health and safety, environmental, and energy management systems.
  • Develop and deliver engaging training programs to employees, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge and skills to work safely.
  • Assess the competence of subcontractors and ensure their adherence to our safety standards.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of our Safety, Health, Environmental, and Energy Management Systems.
  • Coordinate internal audits for various aspects of site operations, including health and safety, catering, security, and the Integrated Management System (IMS).

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Possesses a relevant H&S qualification, such as IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent.
  • Has demonstrable experience in a health and safety/environmental/energy role within the facilities management or building services industry.
  • Is proficient in delivering presentations and training sessions to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of health and safety, environmental, and energy management systems.
  • Possesses auditing and compliance experience.
  • Exhibits excellent IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and databases.
  • Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing across all levels of internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • A flexible approach to meet the evolving needs of our business and clients.
  • The ability to travel to various sites within a designated geographical area, with flexibility for nationwide and ROI travel.
  • Occasional overnight stays may be required.
  • Possession of a full UK driving license.
