Position Overview

As the Lead Podiatrist within the Offender Health sector, you will be responsible for the comprehensive assessment and treatment of individuals in a correctional facility who require podiatric care. Your role will involve establishing clinical diagnoses and determining appropriate podiatric interventions while maintaining meticulous records as an independent practitioner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Adhere to all organizational standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Exhibit advanced dexterity, coordination, and palpatory skills for the assessment and manual treatment of patients.
  • Provide both spontaneous and structured guidance, education, and instruction to patients' families and caregivers to enhance their understanding of the objectives of the podiatric services.
  • Offer expert advice and training to fellow podiatrists and general practitioners as necessary.
  • Deliver specialized guidance and training to other members of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) as required.
  • Effectively communicate with patients and their caregivers to optimize rehabilitation outcomes and ensure clarity regarding their conditions.
  • Assess patient capacity, obtain valid informed consent, and navigate legal frameworks when working with patients who may lack the capacity to consent to treatment.
  • Engage in continuous professional development (CPD) by staying informed about emerging trends and integrating them into practice.
  • Actively participate in the CPD training program by attending and delivering presentations, as well as engaging in external courses and reflective practice.
  • Conduct evaluations of your work and current practices through Evidence-Based Practice projects, audits, and outcome measures.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of Clinical Governance and Risk Management, applying these principles in your work environment.
  • Be accountable for the equipment utilized in the execution of podiatric duties, ensuring compliance with company policies and demonstrating proficiency in equipment usage.
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and up-to-date documentation in accordance with legal and organizational requirements, communicating assessment and treatment outcomes to relevant parties through reports and correspondence.
  • Participate in the monthly collection of pertinent data and statistics.
  • Be cognizant of Health and Safety protocols in your work and implement necessary policies to enhance workplace safety, including the prompt reporting of incidents to senior personnel and ensuring safe equipment usage.
  • Comply with organizational policies and procedures, contributing to their review and update as necessary, while adhering to professional guidelines and standards from relevant health authorities.
Qualifications

Demonstrated experience in podiatry, particularly in advanced practices such as nail surgery and biomechanics, is essential.
