We are in search of a highly skilled Senior Specialist Speech and Language Therapist who is eager to enhance their leadership capabilities.
The successful candidate will become part of our established multidisciplinary team at a premier rehabilitation center, focusing on delivering specialized treatment and care for individuals facing complex physical and cognitive challenges due to brain injuries.
Under the guidance of our Head of Therapies and Deputy Head of Therapies, you will oversee the provision of a highly specialized Speech and Language Therapy service. This role includes management responsibilities, clinical supervision, and mentoring of junior therapists and students. You will also play a vital role in upholding the highest standards of clinical care and contribute to the ongoing development of our services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough Speech and Language Therapy assessments, utilizing both standardized and non-standardized methods for patients with intricate neurological conditions.
- Exhibit advanced knowledge in the instrumental assessment of swallowing, including the interpretation of video fluoroscopy and FEES reports.
- Apply clinical reasoning and evidence-based practices to formulate appropriate care pathways and treatment options.
- Design and manage individualized treatment plans and objectives, providing guidance to both the Speech and Language Therapy team and the broader interdisciplinary team.
- Develop comprehensive discharge plans, coordinating with relevant community services.
- Effectively manage clinical risks within your caseload while supporting the clinical lead in overseeing risks across the team.
- Demonstrate competence in working with patients with non-ventilated tracheostomies or a willingness to undergo necessary training.
- Ensure regular clinical supervision, annual appraisals, and personal development plans for qualified Speech and Language Therapy staff.
- Provide clinical guidance and support to the Speech and Language Therapy team, including support staff and students.
- Participate in relevant local meetings that influence the Speech and Language Therapy team, such as Clinical Governance and Team Meetings.
- Contribute to audits conducted within the center.
- Uphold the safety and rights of individuals under care.
Qualifications and Skills:
- HCPC registration is required.
- Postgraduate training in dysphagia is essential.
- Proven ability to manage a complex caseload independently, with expertise in neurorehabilitation.
- Experience in supervising junior team members, including writing appraisals and action plans.
- Active participation in service development initiatives.
- Successful candidates will undergo an Enhanced DBS check.
