The University of the Arts London (UAL) is seeking a Knitwear Technician to become a vital member of our technical team on a part-time basis. This role presents a remarkable chance to enhance the educational experience and ensure the effective functioning of university equipment and facilities.
Leveraging your extensive knowledge in knitwear, you will offer expert guidance and support to students, aiding their development and helping them achieve their learning objectives. This will include conducting both formal and informal sessions to showcase essential processes and techniques, such as stoll, yarn, dubied, domestic and machine methods, along with knitted garment assembly and pattern calculation.
Beyond your instructional duties, you will oversee the daily operations of designated areas and facilities within the university. This responsibility entails managing the scheduling and utilization of specialized facilities (e.g., darkrooms and studios outside of scheduled teaching times), collaborating closely with the Technical Coordinator/Manager to ensure the safe operation of equipment and facilities.
Candidate Profile
Applicants should possess a relevant degree, an equivalent qualification, or significant experience in knitwear for fashion, complemented by knowledge and experience with stoll, dubied, domestic knitting machines, hand knitting, garment construction, fully fashioning, and cut and sew techniques.
Proficiency in the Adobe Suite is essential, along with experience in CAD knitting, including the Stoll M1 / create plus program.
Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork abilities are crucial, as is the capacity to plan and deliver technical instructions to a varied audience.
