Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Lead Cost Estimator to join our team, focusing on projects for local authorities.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Commercial Manager, the Lead Cost Estimator will be responsible for fulfilling the commercial needs of various projects. Daily responsibilities will include:

  • Understanding the principles and significance of sustainability within the civil engineering sector.
  • Providing expert construction and contractual knowledge to both commercial and operational teams.
  • Mentoring junior commercial staff as needed.
  • Conducting negotiations with all stakeholders involved.
  • Performing a commercial review of project timelines prior to submission.
  • Advising on assessments of delays and disruptions as required.
  • Overseeing the valuation and management of subcontractor agreements, ensuring timely payments and final account settlements.
  • Maintaining regular communication with client representatives to manage expectations.
  • Engaging in the management of sub-contracts, including tender processes and monthly payment assessments.
  • Assisting in the preparation of monthly Cost Value Reports (CVRs).
  • Providing guidance to minimize disputes with clients and subcontractors.
  • Ensuring all contracts meet minimum insurance requirements.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Proven experience in a similar capacity, preferably within the Civil Engineering field.
  • A solid understanding of the civil engineering or highways sector.
  • Experience with NEC3/4 contracts is highly advantageous.
  • Exposure to working with councils or large governmental organizations.
  • A BSc or MSc Degree in Quantity Surveying or an equivalent qualification.
  • Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Excellent numerical and analytical abilities.
  • A process-driven mindset with strong commercial awareness and negotiation capabilities.

Additional experience in relevant construction methodologies, membership in a professional body, and knowledge of project and risk management will be beneficial.
