We are pleased to present a unique opportunity for a Senior Control Systems Engineer to join our esteemed client, a leader in the global nuclear energy sector.
This position involves working within a UK nuclear licensed environment, where the focus is on delivering safe, efficient, and dependable uranium enrichment solutions.
Hybrid Working Arrangement
This role offers flexibility with a hybrid working model.
Possession of SC clearance is advantageous; however, candidates must be UK citizens and should not have resided outside the UK for the past five years to be eligible for clearance.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The project entails the evaluation and enhancement of control and safety systems for an external gantry crane.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The selected candidate will:
- Conduct a thorough assessment of the current control methodologies and safety protocols associated with the external gantry crane.
- Provide recommendations aimed at optimizing the existing safety hierarchy to improve operational availability.
- Engage with stakeholders to secure approval for proposed modifications and oversee the execution of these enhancements.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Perform an in-depth analysis of the existing control systems and safety functions.
- Implement industry best practices.
- Recommend short, medium, and long-term adjustments to align control methodologies with industry standards.
- Support the implementation and commissioning of all plant modifications.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A solid understanding of engineering design processes within a highly regulated environment.
- A minimum of five years of experience on a nuclear licensed site or a significant COMAH site.
- Extensive knowledge of crane control and interlock systems.
- Familiarity with contemporary industrial practices relevant to engineering disciplines, including safety through design.
- Proficiency in various engineering disciplines, technologies, plant systems, and processes.
- Knowledge of UK and international standards applicable to engineering and design in the nuclear sector.
- Excellent IT capabilities, including proficiency in Microsoft and Autodesk applications, document management systems, and ERP systems (SAP).
- Ability to produce high-quality technical documentation, including functional and technical specifications.
- A commitment to continuous professional development to propose and implement effective and safe solutions.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess issues and develop practical solutions.
- Effective communication, reporting, and presentation skills.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
The candidate should hold a degree in a relevant engineering discipline, such as Instrumentation & Control Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
Membership or associate membership in a relevant engineering institution, with a focus on pursuing chartered status, is preferred.
Significant experience in safety control systems and crane control systems is essential.
Demonstrable experience in managing similar projects is also required.
