An exceptional opportunity is available for a Consultant Haematologist to join our esteemed team at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The haematology department is continuously advancing, and this role will play a crucial part in enhancing the North Wales Haematology Service alongside both existing and new positions.

Key Responsibilities

The Alaw Unit operates as a comprehensive clinical haematology and oncology facility. Responsibilities will encompass both inpatient and outpatient care, mentorship of junior staff, and educational engagement with medical students. The successful candidate will also be required to perform certain invasive procedures, including bone marrow aspirations and lumbar punctures.

Applicants must have a minimum of 12 years of medical practice following their medical qualification, which should include at least 6 years in Haematology as a Specialty Doctor/SAS grade or equivalent. The ideal candidate must fulfill the criteria outlined in the Specialist grade generic capabilities framework.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

  • MBBS or equivalent medical degree.
  • A minimum of 12 years of full-time postgraduate training or equivalent experience.
  • At least 6 years of experience in a relevant specialty.
  • Exhibits the professional values and behaviors expected of all medical practitioners as outlined in the GMC Good Medical Practice.
  • Demonstrates the necessary competencies, knowledge, skills, and behaviors pertinent to the role.
  • Engages in professional development through annual appraisals and performance reviews.

Desirable Attributes

  • Advanced degree (PhD, Masters) in a relevant field.
  • Experience in Laboratory haematology or a willingness to acquire this competency.
  • FRCPath part 1 / 2 or equivalent qualifications.
