Senior Embedded Software Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join our innovative team at The Focusrite Group. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing high-quality embedded software for our synthesisers and controllers.

About the Role:

As a Senior Embedded Software Engineer, you will be involved in the entire product lifecycle, from refining product specifications to producing innovative designs. You will work closely with a multi-discipline team to generate complexity/work estimates, fix issues, and engage in stage-gated and agile methodologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop high-quality embedded software for our synthesisers and controllers
  • Refine product specifications and produce innovative designs
  • Generate complexity/work estimates and fix issues
  • Engage in stage-gated and agile methodologies
  • Collaborate with a multi-discipline team

Requirements:

  • Competent coding skills in C and C++
  • Understanding of embedded firmware architecture and ability to balance technical trade-offs
  • Commitment to continual personal improvement and improvement of the wider team
  • Excellent design, debugging, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to clearly articulate problems and solutions for technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to guide, mentor, and develop others

Desirable Skills:

  • MCU programming experience (STM32/ARM)
  • Knowledge of bare metal software designs
  • Familiarity with real-time operating systems (FreeRTOS/Zephyr)
  • Familiarity with wireless communications technology (e.g. BT, WiFi)
  • Technical or engineering-based degree and 3+ years of industry experience in embedded software development projects
  • Experience with reading schematics and hardware interfaces (SPI, UART, I2C)
  • Experience of working using Agile methodologies such as Scrum
  • Test-driven development (TDD); unit, integration, automated, and system testing experience
  • Understanding of code management systems (e.g. Git, SVN)
  • Knowledge of continuous integration; specifically GitHub Actions and Artifactory
