Job Title: Principal Practitioner Psychologist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Practitioner Psychologist to join our established psychology team within the Paediatric & Young Adult Liver Service at King's College Hospital (KCH).

The successful candidate will play a key role in the development and delivery of integrated psychological care pathways in liver services at King's College Hospital, Denmark Hill.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the systematic provision of high-quality clinical psychology services to children and young people (0-25 years) receiving liver care at King's College Hospital (KCH), from diagnosis through to transition to adult services.
  • Provide specialist psychological advice, guidance, consultation, and supervision to colleagues within the multidisciplinary team (MDT) and other professionals involved in the child's care, on psychological aspects specific to management.
  • Assess and monitor risk and draw up appropriate risk management plans, providing advice to other professionals on psychological aspects of risk assessment and management.
  • Provide regular support meetings/debrief meetings for the medical team as required and support staff by providing advice based on psychological assessment and formulation.
  • Make referrals for further work as appropriate and liaison work with other departments within the hospital and community agencies as necessary (including CAMHS, Education, and Social Services).
  • Ensure that all services provided are acceptable and accessible to the diverse communities which make up the patient population of KCH.

Requirements:
  • Doctoral level training in Clinical Psychology as accredited by the BPS/HCPC, including specific models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, and cognitive assessments, two or more distinct psychological therapies, and lifespan developmental psychology.
  • Registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) with practitioner psychologist status - clinical, counselling, or health psychologist Eligible for Chartered status of the British Psychological Society (BPS)
  • Post-doctoral training in one or more specialised areas of psychological practice (e.g. CBT, Motivational Interviewing, or Systemic therapy)
Experience:
  • Assessed experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist, with clinical experience in the management of psychosocial aspects of acute and chronic medical conditions.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity including direct clinical work with children, adolescents, young adults, and families presenting with highly emotional and distressing conditions.
  • Experience of working with children, adolescents, and young adults with medical needs
  • Experience in the psychological management of acute and chronic illness, including specialist experience and knowledge of managing procedural anxieties and issues of non-adherence.
  • Clinical experience in the assessment, intervention, and management of psychosocial aspects of liver or other medical conditions.
  • Experience of supervision of Doctoral Trainee Psychologist
