About This Role

At American Express, we're looking for a seasoned Senior Engineer to lead our team in building cutting-edge payment solutions. As a key member of our engineering team, you'll be responsible for driving user story analysis, design, and delivery of responsive backend services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a scrum team in designing, developing, and deploying secure services for our payment platforms and customer-facing services.
  • Contribute to architecture in building core features and deploy to our on-prem payment cloud within the American Express infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with external teams and Product Owners to drive innovation and experimentation.
  • Guide and mentor other engineers, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and willingness to challenge the status quo.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry-leading technologies and solutions, and translate them into working software.

Requirements

  • University Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, followed by proven experience in a modern development stack (Java or Golang preferred).
  • Secure integration with API Gateways using REST endpoints is essential.
  • Experience with automated build and test frameworks is essential.
  • Messaging and distributed systems using Kafka event streams is essential.
  • SQL Products: Oracle & Postgres is a plus.
  • Application and Network Security architectures is a plus.
  • NoSQL Products: Redis, Couchbase, Cassandra is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience deploying and monitoring services running on Kubernetes + OpenShift is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the payment industry.
  • Experience with a broad range of software languages in payments technologies.
  • Experience in designing and implementing distributed technologies.
