Key Responsibilities
- Function as an independent practitioner, taking full responsibility for the care provided, while showcasing advanced clinical reasoning and decision-making skills in patient management.
- Conduct assessments, formulate diagnoses, and develop, implement, and evaluate treatment plans for patients with intricate health needs.
- Identify and manage both acute and chronic health conditions, utilizing a combination of pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment strategies.
- Work in partnership with the healthcare team to fulfill patient needs and contribute to the achievement of performance metrics and quality indicators.
- Engage actively in the delivery of coordinated healthcare services, providing mentorship and guidance to nursing staff and healthcare assistants.
Clinical Duties
As a Senior Nurse Practitioner, you will:
- Evaluate and manage patients presenting with undifferentiated health issues, ensuring a thorough clinical assessment.
- Prescribe and monitor medications, ensuring therapeutic effectiveness and adherence to established clinical guidelines.
- Support patients in understanding their treatment regimens, including potential side effects and interactions.
- Prioritize health concerns and intervene effectively in urgent or emergency situations, including the initiation of emergency care protocols.
- Encourage patients to adopt health-promoting behaviors and self-care practices.
Communication Skills
Effective communication is essential in this role. You will:
- Utilize empathetic communication techniques to ensure patients are well-informed and consent to their treatment plans.
- Support patients and families during difficult conversations, ensuring clarity and understanding.
- Maintain open lines of communication within the practice and with external partners.
Quality Assurance
In your role, you will:
- Adhere to professional standards and regulatory requirements as set forth by the nursing governing body.
- Document patient interactions accurately and in compliance with relevant legislation and policies.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of care delivery through self-assessment and peer review.
- Collaborate with other clinical teams to enhance the quality of healthcare services in alignment with local and national initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- Extensive post-registration experience in nursing.
- Experience in nurse-led triage and developing clinical protocols.
- Familiarity with audit processes.
Desirable:
- Recent experience in primary care settings.
- Involvement in research and project management.
- Experience with community health initiatives and health needs assessments.
Educational Requirements
Essential:
- Registered first-level nurse with a relevant degree or credentialing.
- Qualification in independent prescribing.
