Laboratory Technician

Widener University is seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Technician to join our team of engineering professionals. As a key member of our laboratory support staff, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our instructional and research engineering laboratories.
Key Responsibilities:- Operate and maintain a variety of machine shop equipment, including lathes, mills, CNC machines, and welding equipment.
- Assist faculty and students with the design, fabrication, and modification of mechanical components and prototypes.
- Provide technical support and training to students and staff in the use of machine shop tools and equipment.
- Ensure safety compliance by enforcing machine shop safety protocols and conducting regular equipment inspections.
- Manage inventory of materials, tools, and supplies, and coordinate with vendors for purchases and repairs.
- Assemble, set up, and calibrate instruments and supplies in assigned engineering labs.
- Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment in assigned labs.
- Assist faculty and students in laboratory classes and to train, assist and supervise students on how to operate equipment.
- Support engineering outreach and recruitment activities.
- Associate's degree in a technical field and two years of relevant experience in engineering or a similar field.
- Experience with engineering testing equipment.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Experience with computer-aided design (CAD) software.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision on multiple tasks.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Bachelor's degree in the engineering field.
- Previous experience in engineering laboratories.
- Experience with machine shop operations.
- May be required to work on weekends and evenings.
- Must be able to stand, sit, bend, kneel, climb stairs, reach, and climb ladders.
- Ability to lift objects weighing up to 35 lbs.
- Ability to work on computers.
