Design Manager Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Design Manager to join our Kier Transportation Rail team and contribute to the success of various rail-related projects across the Northwest.

As a Design Manager, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the effective management of design programmes and quality standards. You will be responsible for managing design consultant appointments, producing design programmes, and managing design development and optioneering.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage design consultant appointments and ensure compliance with standards and brief.
  • Produce design programmes, design scopes, and design responsibility matrices.
  • Manage design development and optioneering, focusing on buildability between construction and design teams.
  • Contribute to and record design decisions, including Safe by Design, Buildability, Value Engineering, Whole life Cost, and Sustainability.
  • Provide input to and manage output from the change control process relating to the design and design supply chain.
Requirements:
  • Implement sustainable best practice in Design.
  • Assist Commercial teams in appointing professional engineering and design services.
  • Input to project programme by regularly assessing design delivery progress and identifying exceptions.
  • Support the project commercial team in securing maximum sustainable value from contracts through value engineering and innovation.
