Position Overview
The North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a proactive and skilled Locum Consultant in Gastroenterology to enhance our comprehensive digestive health services throughout the region. Our Gastrointestinal Service represents a newly established, unified department that integrates gastroenterology and endoscopy, upper gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, colorectal, and emergency GI surgical services.
Role Responsibilities
The successful candidate will collaborate with a dedicated team of gastroenterologists, supported by specialized nursing staff in IBD and hepatology. The transformation of our services across the Trust aims to streamline complex inpatient care at designated sites while ensuring that elective outpatient services, including endoscopy and clinics, are accessible across the Trust. We encourage sub-specialty interests that align with departmental and organizational needs.
All team members will be expected to contribute to the general gastroenterology services, despite being assigned to a primary unit.
Key Duties
The department is equipped with two specialized GI wards at the Cumberland Infirmary for inpatient care. Plans are underway to consolidate all GI services in one location. The Cumberland Infirmary features a dedicated three-room endoscopy unit, while the West Cumberland Hospital boasts a state-of-the-art facility with two endoscopy rooms. Additionally, both sites have specialized GI physiology laboratories.
The Trust has recently secured funding for a new five-room Endoscopy Unit, set to open in the near future.

Job Specifications
Responsibilities
The on-call duties include Out of Hours GI Bleed coverage. The standard job plan includes 10-12 Programmed Activities (PAs).
Relocation assistance of up to £4,000 may be available for candidates relocating to the area.
This position currently offers a discretionary recruitment premium of up to 10% of the basic salary per annum, which is pensionable and subject to annual review.

- Full GMC registration

- Experience as a Consultant, SAS Doctor, or General Practitioner
