About the Role

Hays Accountancy & Finance is partnering with a leading education organisation to recruit a dynamic and experienced part-time Tax Accountant for their Cheltenham, Gloucestershire office.

As a key member of the Finance & Commercial department, you will be primarily responsible for handling VAT and corporation tax matters, supporting all major projects/contracts, providing complex tax advice, and assessing upcoming risks.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Be the primary contact on all projects/contracts, providing tax advice to support financial business modelling and decision-making.
  • Take responsibility for the production of statutory returns for VAT, calculation of partial exemption, and capital goods scheme.
  • Ensure the organisation's companies are compliant with tax affairs.
  • Take the lead in interpreting and applying tax legislation to optimise the tax position of the organisation.
  • Produce and manage tax guidance to educate other departments, provide a self-help service for VAT queries, and support the Financial Controller with the implementation of tax policies.
  • Assist with the annual review and reporting of the organisation's tax position, identify/develop relevant systems, and liaise with auditors for both year-end audit and internal audit programmes.
  • Deputise for the Financial Controller as and when required and be involved in ad-hoc tax projects.
What You'll Need to Succeed

To be considered for this hands-on Part-time Tax Accountant role, you will need experience in a similar position, qualified; ACA, ACCA, CTA, ATT or qualified by experience.

You will have up-to-date knowledge of FRS102 with recent and relevant experience of dealing with VAT and Corporation tax matters.

You will have experience of liaising with HMRC, the ability to interpret and explain tax legislation to non-finance team members, and be trained in a range of finance/tax systems with key MS Excel skills.

Experience within the education or charity sector, knowledge of Agresso system and overseas taxation processes, would be advantageous but not essential.

What You'll Get in Return

This permanent part-time Tax Accountant role offers a salary between £45,000 - £54,000 per annum, pro rata over 18.
