Job Overview

The Deputy Chief Medical Officer role is a key leadership position that offers a unique opportunity to develop and grow as a medical professional. As a senior leader, you will work collaboratively with the Chief Medical Officer to provide strategic leadership to medical management, focusing on issues such as medical development, recruitment, retention, and job planning.

Main Responsibilities

The Deputy Chief Medical Officer will work closely with the Chief Medical Officer to:

  • Provide leadership to specific high-profile areas and medical leadership more generally
  • Develop a balanced medical leadership portfolio that provides exceptional experience in corporate medical leadership
  • Chair trust-wide groups, such as the Medicines Optimisation Group and the Mortality Review Group
  • Be the Caldicott Guardian and co-chair of the Information Governance Steering Group
  • Lead on agreed medical professional areas of priority and interest
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice at the time of appointment
  • GMC Specialist Register or significant equivalent experience
  • Good standing with the GMC with respect to warnings and conditions on practice
  • Up-to-date with professional requirements of a senior doctor, such as appraisal
  • At least two years' experience in a senior leadership role, such as lead clinician or Clinical Director, with a demonstrable track record relevant to the person specification
