Job Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at Matchtech. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for the development of rotating electrical machines, including motors, pumps, and fans.

Your primary focus will be on clean-sheet mechanical design and development, as well as exploration, design development, prototyping, and testing of concepts. You will also be responsible for mechanical analysis of conceptual designs, demonstrating a strong understanding of likely component failure modes and material strengths.

Additionally, you will be required to build and test prototype hardware and test rigs as necessary, and to work with other design engineers and the wider cross-functional department to deliver programs. You will also be responsible for working to company and industry quality standards, and for developing and mentoring junior colleagues.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Clean-sheet mechanical design and development of rotating electrical machines.
  2. Exploration, design development, prototyping, and testing of concepts.
  3. Mechanical analysis of conceptual designs.
  4. Build and test of prototype hardware and test rigs.
  5. Work with other design engineers and the wider cross-functional department to deliver programs.
  6. Work to company and industry quality standards.
  7. Develop and mentor junior colleagues.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a strong background in mechanical engineering, with a degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline. You will also need to have experience with 3D CAD modelling and 2D engineering drawings, as well as a strong understanding of design analysis skills such as Design for Manufacturing, DFMEA & PFMEA.

You will also need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team and to interact with internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, you will need to have a strong commercial awareness and proactive problem-solving skills to ensure business needs are understood and agreed solutions are delivered.

Desirable Skills

It would be beneficial if you also had experience with ANSYS, including static structural analysis, thermal and modal analyses, as well as experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics and rotating machines. You will also need to have a good understanding and experience of working with a wide variety of materials and manufacturing processes, as well as BOM creation and management, and liaising with suppliers/manufacturers.
