Job Summary

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to work as a lead social worker in the Commonwealth of Virginia's Foster Care, Adoption and Family Services unit. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing direct services to individuals and families, as well as supporting the supervisor and other staff members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct intervention and service delivery for difficult, complex social work cases
  • Coordinate casework and develop and implement service plans to ensure the delivery of appropriate services to clients
  • Represent the agency in civil and criminal court proceedings, including interpreting laws, filing petitions, and testifying before the court
  • Supervise social work interns and provide guidance and training to other staff members
  • Conduct field visits to residential facilities and consult with therapists and residential staff
  • Develop and conduct training programs for staff, interns, and other professionals in the community
Requirements
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field or a Bachelor's degree in any field with a minimum of two years of related experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of social work principles and practices, human behavior and motivational theory, and laws, policies, and regulations relating to human services program areas
  • Ability to provide guidance and training in program areas to other employees, write court reports and other documents, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Knowledge and/or experience in Foster Care and Adoption programs
Preferred Qualifications
  • Considerable experience in assigned program area and completion of required training programs
  • Work experience in a leadership role
  • Knowledge of and experience in applying complex federal and state laws, regulations, policies, and procedures that govern compliance requirements related to Child Welfare Programs
Special Requirements
  • DMV/driving record check, pre-employment drug screen, Central Registry (CPS) check, and/or criminal history search
  • Employee must be willing to work in the community emergency shelter in the event of a natural disaster or emergency
